12 Month Wedding Checklist

9 - 12 Months

 

q       Set a wedding date and time.

q       Discuss wedding budget with fiancé, his parents and your parents.

q       Decide on formal or informal wedding.

q       Select number of guests and budget.

q       Have families meet if they have not already met.

q       Decide if you would like a wedding consultant to assist.

q       Reserve wedding location.

q       Book reception hall or location.

q       Reserve rehearsal dinner location.

q       Reserve bridesmaid luncheon location.

q       Book clergy or officiant.

q       Select florist.

q       Hire photographer.

q       Hire videographer.

q       Select caterer.

q       Hire limousines.

q       Decide on musicians and vocalists for wedding ceremony.

q       Book a band or disc jockey for reception.

q       Purchase and insure your wedding bands.

q       Begin a proposed guest list.

q       Discuss your honeymoon plans with a travel agent.

q       Decide if you would like any cosmetic surgery.

q       Have your engagement party.

 

6 – 9 Months

 

q       Choose your wedding dress, veil and accessories.

q       Select and invite your Maid of Honor and bridesmaids.

q       Pick flower girl and ring bearer.

q       Choose bridesmaids’ dresses. Discuss budget with bridesmaids.

q       Select your china, crystal and silver patterns.

q       Enroll with selected Bridal Registries.

q       Order items from rental company, if required.

q       Decide which special traditions you would like included in your ceremony and at the reception (such as Jumping the Broom).

q       Finalize details of ceremony.

q       Finalize details of reception.

q       Find your new home for when you return from your honeymoon.

 

3 – 6 Months

 

q       Finalize your guest list. Save a copy for “thank you” notes.

q       Order your wedding dress.

q       Choose the men’s formal wear.

q       Sit for your wedding and engagement portraits.

q       Select your mother and his mother’s dresses.

q       Order invitations, announcements, thank you notes and personal stationery.

q       Confirm and book your honeymoon plans.

q       Book wedding night accommodations, if required.

q       Design and order your wedding cake, cake top and groom’s cake.

q       Make reservations for accommodations for out-of-town guests.

q       Arrange transportation for out-of-town guests.

q       Order groom’s and attendant’s gifts.

q       Choose a reader for the ceremony.

q       Finalize your flower details with florist.

q       Choose your music selections for ceremony and reception. Specifically, select the music for your dances with the groom, your father, his father and the best man.

q       Inform employers regarding vacation time required.

 

1 – 3 Months

 

q       Send announcement and engagement pictures to local publications.

q       Make final corrections to guest list.

q       Hire calligrapher and address wedding invitations.

q       Make appointment with hair salon for hair, facial, manicure, pedicure and makeup.

q       Select and purchase your trousseau.

q       Confirm delivery date of wedding dress.

q       Final fitting of wedding dress.

q       Write your wedding vows, if desired.

q       Order reception menu.

q       Order rehearsal dinner menu.

q       Compose and print ceremony programs.

q       Get details on marriage license and blood tests as required.

q       Purchase camera, film and/or video camera for honeymoon .

 

1 Month

 

q       Mail invitations.

q       Write rehearsal dinner speeches.

q       Schedule bridesmaids’ luncheon.

q       Buy groom’s gift.

q       Check passports and visa requirements if honeymoon is out of the country.

 

2 Weeks

 

q       Meet with officiant to review final details including the vows.

q       Plan the reception seating arrangement.

q       Make seating cards for bride’s table.

q       Contact special guests who have not yet confirmed.

q       Purchase travelers checks for honeymoon.

q       Confirm airline tickets, hotel and/or cruise ship reservations.

q       Write your wedding announcement.

q       Select individual to mail your wedding announcement on evening or day after wedding.

 

 

1 Week

 

q       Set aside your going away outfit.

q       Pack your honeymoon suitcases.

q       Have bridesmaids’ luncheon.

q       Hold rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

q       Groomsmen’s final fitting and pick up of wedding attire.

q       Determine order of bridesmaids procession and groomsmen.

q       Provide marriage license to officiant.

q       Select photographer contact for wedding day.

q       Select individual (usually the best man)  to provide payments for photographer, caterer, officiant, band, bartenders and limousines, as required.

q       Prepare checks for wedding day.

 

 

Day Before the Wedding

q       Give attendants and groomsmen their presents.

q       Get a good night’s sleep the night before the wedding.

 

Wedding Day

q       Give best man your wedding rings.

q       Give checks to individual selected to distribute.

q       Have person take wedding gifts from the reception.

q       Have person save the top of the wedding cake in a freezer for your one-year anniversary.

q       Have fun!

 

The Day After

q       Mail wedding announcement to local newspapers.

q       Friend takes your wedding dress to company to be heirloomed.

 

After Honeymoon

q       Make a gift list and send “thank you” notes.

q       Send thank you letters to attendants and suppliers as appropriate.

q       Change name on required documents.
