Dress Color

You have a vision of how you want to look on your wedding day. Is it traditional or perhaps a bit more avant-garde? Today’s dress designers are expanding from the straight white to give you a lot of interesting and beautiful ways to create your dream.

In 1840 Queen Victoria wed Prince Albert in a fabulous gown made of white lace. From that day forward white became the traditional color for brides in the western world. There is nothing that says you have to be Victorian on your wedding day.

One trend in color is to highlight the traditional white dress with a bit of color. These accents might be lavender, pink, sage or gold. Then there are the combined colors such as a black and white dress for that formal appearance or use black as trim, on buttons or for embroidery.

Every major designer now has a line of colored dresses in everything from soft pastels to bold solids including black, gold, red, green, and yellow. Opening the color palette allows the designers to really show their talents.

If it is not your first wedding, it is traditional to have a cream or ivory colored dress that is frequently not a full length gown. Again this is a tradition that can now be ignored. Go ahead, make a statement.

You know what color makes you look good. If white is not your color, don’t let tradition deter you from the perfect dress for your wedding day. Just make sure your groom is dressed complement your decision.
